You do not need to move away from the capital to see unique sights. The following 5 amazing places are located less than 50 km from Sofia:
Dragoman marsh
It is located 38 km from Sofia and 1 km from the town of Dragoman. It spreads over 350 hectares and has been declared a reserve. It is located on the migratory route of the birds Via Aristotelis. The birds here stop to rest during their long journey. You can watch them from a special shelter, which leads to a small bridge. There are over 140 different plant species in the area.
The thermal springs of Zheleznitsa
These 12 small springs with a water temperature of 28 degrees are located 23 km from Sofia, at the foot of Vitosha. Few people know that in the past this water was bottled and sold. The first thermal springs, which are closest to the village, are equipped with a shower. If you continue along the river, you will reach two Jacuzzis, built by locals in the open, in the woods.
Skaklya waterfall
The area near Svoge, which is located 40 km from Sofia, is one of Ivan Vazov's favorite places to walk. The path that the famous Bulgarian often walked on is today called the Vasov Path. It will take you to an observation deck from which you can see the Skaklya waterfall. The natural wonder is most flooded in spring and autumn.
The new miracle Tsari Mali grad
Tsari Mali grad was opened last summer and quickly became one of the wonders of Bulgaria. The historic complex is located near the Samokov village of Belchin, about 50 km from the capital.
The Lozen Monastery
It is located 5 km from the village of Dolni Lozen, deep in the Lozenska mountain, below Polovrak peak. It is believed that it was built during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. Destroyed several times over the years, today parts of the monastery have been restored. The most amazing thing in the holy monastery is the incredible view it reveals to the Sofia plain.
